Questions & Answers

1) Which ticket machines sell CityTourCards, MVV-Thermen-Tickets (MVV Thermal Spa Tickets) and tickets for regional trains?

The CityTourCard, the MVV-Thermen-Ticket, the Bavaria Ticket (offered by Deutsche Bahn), the Bavaria Ticket Single, the Weekend Ticket and the Bavaria Bicycle Day Ticket are available from the following ticket machines:

  • New MVG ticket machines with touchscreen
  • MVG ticket machines with screen and numeric keypad in U-Bahn (underground) stations
  • DB ticket machines with touchscreen in S-Bahn (urban rail) stations

2) What additional features do the touchscreen ticket machines offer?

At the DB ticket machines with touch screen located in S-Bahn (urban rail) stations, you can take a look at the MVV urban rail network map, view the MVV tariff conditions or buy DB tickets for local and regional services.

At the new MVG ticket machines found in U-Bahn (underground) stations, you can scan in every ticket that has a barcode on the front using the barcode scanner. Then you’ll get the ticket you want on the display.

These machines also have an Easy Button: simply press it to show large versions of the Stripe Ticket, Single Trip Ticket, Single Day Ticket and Partner Day Ticket on the screen so you can pick the one you want.

3) Why won’t the ticket machine accept my bank note?

If large denomination bank notes are used to buy tickets very often, the machine’s stock of change may run out before the next inspection and the machine will stop accepting notes. You will then have to pay via another method.

4) May I travel without a ticket if the ticket machine is out of order?

You may travel without a ticket to the next stop with ticket machines or a manned sales point, then buy your ticket there. However, in the event of a ticket inspection you must state the device number of the faulty ticket machine.

Example
If the ticket machine in Planegg is out of order, you may travel without a ticket to Pasing and buy your ticket there.
