Air travellers

By public transport to the airport and back

All the passengers at Munich’s Franz-Josef-Strauß Airport have one thing in common: they want to continue their journey without any hassle until they reach their destination, be it near or far.

So you’ve arrived. Now what?

From Munich Airport, lines S1 and S8 run to the city centre. They run alternately every 10 minutes, with the S1 going via Munich West and the S8 via Munich East. The trip takes around 35 minutes.

Travelling with the MVV. Which ticket?

You will need to buy a ticket. We recommend the Airport-City Day Ticket with validity zone M - 5 or the CityTourCard with validity zone M - 6, both offers are available for single travellers and for couples, families or groups.
Both tickets include the journey from/to the airport and the entire city of Munich and are valid for all means of transport on the MVV. With the group version of the ticket, up to five people are allowed to travel.

The Airport-City-Day-Ticket or CityTourCard is available as MVV-MobileTicket or OnlineTicket or from the ticket machines at the airport. These also accept credit cards.

The Day Ticket Zone M - 5 does the same and can - as it is not validated at the time of purchase - already be purchased as part of your travel preparations. If you live closer to the airport, a day ticket for the required zones may be cheaper.

Also single tickets or a stripe ticket are possible alternatives. Or you can use your IsarCard season ticket, for which you can buy a connecting ticket if necessary.

Car parks by the airport

If you park your car in one of Munich Airport's tourist parking lots, you can use your parking ticket to drive to your departure terminal - and back again later - free of charge. Simply present your parking ticket. This ticket is valid as a travel authorization for all persons arriving and departing together by car.

The parking facilities P41, P44, P50, P51 and P90 are considered tourist parking (economy parking).

Parking at the airport

You can use these MVV connections with a parking ticket:

  • S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 between the visitor park and the airport
  • Bus line 635 between the airport, economy parking lots P41, P44, P50, P51 and P90 and airport terminal 1/2
