Following the expansion of the MVV fare zone in recent years, districts have joined the MVV whose local authorities issue visitor cards. These cards allow overnight guests to use local public transport in their region free of charge. The previous local public transport fares have been replaced here by the MVV joint fare.
Overview of guest cards including areas of validity
- The guest card entitles passengers to use all modes of transport integrated into the MVV network; on regional trains, second class must be selected.
- One dog per guest card may be carried free of charge. A ticket at the child fare must be purchased for each additional dog.

V. Visitor Cards
(1) 1Pursuant to special contractual arrangements between the MVV and local authorities issuing visitor cards, certain visitor cards are recognised as valid travel authorisation for overnight guests for the duration of their stay (including the day of arrival and departure). 2Visitor cards may be issued as a HandyTicket, a chip card, or in analogue form (plastic card, paper ticket). 3A list of all recognised visitor cards is published by the MVV.
(2) 1A travel entitlement with a guest card applies exclusively to the registered person(s) and entitles the holder to an unlimited number of free journeys, with any number of stops and changes, on all MVV transport services within the fare zones contractually agreed for the respective guest card. 2For identification purposes, a valid official photo ID must be carried and presented during ticket inspections.
(3) One dog may be carried free of charge with each guest card; for each additional dog, the child fare shall be charged as the transport fee.
