Baroque and the magic of the stage.
Fürstenfeld Abbey
A masterpiece of the South German Late Baroque period of striking beauty: the former Cistercian monastery of Fürstenfeld was founded in 1263 by Duke Ludwig II as an act of penance for the execution of his first wife, Maria of Brabant, and served as the Wittelsbach family’s private monastery. During the Baroque period, under the rule of Elector Max Emanuel, a spacious convent building was erected and the monastery church was adorned with a magnificent interior, whose art-historical significance and splendour continue to attract and fascinate many visitors to this day.
Today, the monastery grounds are a site that combines countless leisure activities for children and adults alike – Fürstenfeldbruck’s Baroque gem has something for everyone. See for yourself!
Experience the following at Fürstenfeldbruck Monastery:
- Art, entertainment and history at the Fürstenfeldbruck Museum with permanent and special exhibitions and engaging guided tours.
- Free workshops and guided tours for children aged 6 and over at the museum; every last Saturday of the month from 1.00 pm to 2.30 pm.
- Climbing fun for young and old at Monkeeisland in the monastery grounds.
