Transport services within the MVV

S-Bahn in the MVV

The S-Bahn is the main mode of transport for journeys within Munich and to the surrounding area.
On weekdays, around 840,000 passengers use the network, which spans approximately 434 kilometres and comprises 8 lines and around 150 stations.

The main route is the trunk line between Ostbahnhof and Pasing. Almost all lines run on this route.
The S-Bahn connects the city and the surrounding region quickly and directly.

The underground is one of the most important modes of transport in Munich. Since 1971, it has provided a fast and reliable link between many parts of the city.
Every day, around 1.2 million passengers use the network, which spans approximately 95 kilometres and comprises 8 lines and around 100 stations.

The modern trains are comfortable and accessible throughout their entire length.

Regional trains on the MVV network

Regional trains provide a quick way to reach destinations in Munich and the surrounding area.
Many routes are part of the MVV network and can be used with the appropriate tickets.

The trains stop at major stations and are therefore faster than the S-Bahn on longer journeys.
They complement the existing rail network and provide fast connections from the region into the city.
This means that longer journeys can be made efficiently and comfortably.

Tram in the MVV

The tram is one of Munich’s most traditional modes of transport and has been in service since 1876.
It provides an important link between many parts of the city.

The network covers around 82 kilometres and is served by 13 lines.
Modern low-floor trams make boarding easy.
The tram complements the transport network and offers direct connections within the city.

Buses in the MVV

Buses are a key part of the MVV local transport network.
They operate both in Munich and throughout the wider region.

The Munich Transport Company (MVG) operates the majority of bus routes within the city.
City buses provide connections within the city and serve the individual districts.
Regional buses connect towns in the surrounding area with Munich and provide links to the rail network.

Different types of routes are used depending on the service:
MetroBuses serve high-demand routes and run at frequent intervals.
ExpressBuses connect more distant destinations particularly quickly with few stops.
CityBuses provide local access and ensure short journeys within the city.

On-Demand-Services im MVV

On-demand services complement the MVV’s regular scheduled services and provide flexible connections as and when required.
They are used primarily in outlying areas and during off-peak hours.

Journeys are only operated following prior booking via the app or by telephone.
This allows even remote locations to be connected and existing services to be usefully supplemented.

There are two types within the MVV network:
FLEXlinie connects fixed stops according to a timetable, but only operates when booked.
FLEX is a flexible service without a fixed route and takes passengers directly to their destination.

On-demand services fill gaps in the transport network and enable flexible mobility as and when required.
