Regional bike-sharing scheme MyRadl: MVV awards contract to nextbike GmbH
- MyRadl – The City of Munich and the region’s local bike-sharing scheme
- Around 1,000 stations with a total of around 6,800 bicycles, including pedelecs (often referred to as e-bikes)
- Borrowing, use and return across municipal and district boundaries
Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter: “MyRadl will be seamlessly integrated into our existing public transport system. Regional bike-sharing fills gaps in everyday life, bridges distances that are too far to walk, connects the city with its surrounding areas and makes it easier to switch to buses and trains.”
What makes MyRadl special is that the bikes can be hired, used and returned across municipal and district boundaries. This creates an attractive local transport option that effectively links buses, trains, cycling and walking throughout the region.
District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß, Ebersberg District and spokesperson for the MVV network districts: “The bike-sharing system in the MVV area offers residents an easily accessible and flexible means of transport. After all, as we know, mobility does not end at city limits – it is the connecting element of our region. With the launch of MyRadl, we are taking a major step towards sustainable mobility for all.”
The regional bike-sharing system MyRadl is based on close cooperation between the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV), the City of Munich and the MVV member districts. The project is commissioned by the towns, market towns and municipalities, as well as the district of Fürstenfeldbruck. The MVV is coordinating the launch and operation of the MyRadl bike-sharing system and acts as the interface between the local authorities and the operator, nextbike GmbH.
MVV Managing Director Dr Bernd Rosenbusch: “MyRadl makes public transport more attractive overall, as regional bike-sharing can significantly reduce journey times to and from the stop. It is the ideal complement, particularly for the so-called ‘last mile’ in public transport – the shorter the journey time, the more passengers we get.”
The regional bike-sharing system MyRadl is scheduled to launch in spring 2026. Preparatory discussions with nextbike are currently underway. Full details on how to use the system and the price benefits of the locally funded MyRadl scheme will be communicated in good time before the system goes live.
The MyRadl bike-sharing scheme will operate in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck (Fürstenfeldbruck, Germering, Grafrath, Gröbenzell, Landsberied, Maisach, Mammendorf, Olching, Puchheim and Schöngeising) and in the municipalities of the NordAllianz – Eching, Garching, Hallbergmoos, Ismaning, Neufahrn, Oberschleißheim, Unterföhring and Unterschleißheim – is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) as part of the National Climate Initiative.
