MVV content for external applications

Developer Area

MVV provides data, interfaces and digital services that can be used on external platforms.
These include, amongst other things, content relating to timetable information and mobility.

All services are available free of charge, provided that the relevant licence and terms of use are complied with.

The OpenData offering is being continuously expanded. The connection to the timetable information system is currently still in closed beta.

Data sets (OpenData)

As part of its OpenData initiative, MVV provides datasets for download on this page.
The data may be used freely in accordance with the licence specified in each case.

The datasets provided are regularly checked and updated.
Neither MVV GmbH nor any third party accepts any liability for the accuracy, timeliness, completeness or quality of the information provided.

Description of the datasets and licence terms

We offer timetable data in GTFS format (General Transit Feed Specification) for download. There are two different datasets available:

  • GTFS Regional Bus: Contains timetable data exclusively for the MVV regional bus service.

  • GTFS-MVV-Gesamt: Contains timetable data for the entire MVV area, i.e. regional trains, S-Bahn, underground, trams, as well as city, metro and regional buses.

The data is updated at irregular intervals (usually every four to eight weeks) and typically covers timetables for around three months. Further information and specifications regarding the file format can be found in the General Transit Feed Specification Reference.

The GTFS data we provide is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence (cc-by). Please cite “Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV)” as the source, along with the date of retrieval and, where applicable, the feed version number. The data from our GTFS feeds may expressly be used for OpenStreetMap. In this case, it is sufficient to specify Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV) and the feed version number as the source in the source tag.

Please note: The GTFS Regional Bus feed contains timetable data for the MVV regional bus service only, whereas the GTFS MVV General feed includes timetables for the entire transport network (including regional rail, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and bus).

Would you prefer not to download the full GTFS data, but simply require a basic list of all MVV stops? For this purpose, we offer a simple CSV file containing the key attributes for stops (e.g. IDs and coordinates) for download. The list is usually updated once a year.

The stop lists we provide are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence (cc-by). Please cite “Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV)” and the date of retrieval as the source.

A list of the routes and modes of transport included in the MVV, available as a CSV file. The list is usually updated once a year.

The route data we provide is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence (cc-by). Please cite "Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV)" and the date of access as the source.

We also provide a list of the fare zones for all stops within the network area in CSV format. The list of stops includes the fare zone allocation for each stop and is usually updated annually.

The stop directory we provide is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence (cc-by). Please cite “Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV)” as the source, along with the date of retrieval and the date the data was last updated.

Timetable information and departure boards for websites and information screens

Homepage-Services (Widgets)

Thanks to the configurable website services, the MVV timetable information can be easily integrated into external websites.

Using modular building blocks, pre-configured links can be created in just a few steps, for example to a specific address or event. This allows users to see the best way to reach a destination by public transport.

In addition, forms for the MVV timetable information or up-to-date departure boards for stops can be integrated. The services are suitable for websites, intranets and information systems.

First, the desired section is selected. The options can then be flexibly customised, for example by pre-selecting a destination.
All widgets are responsive and suitable for different devices.

A live preview shows the settings in real time. Once completed, the embed code can be generated and integrated directly into your own website.
