Good to know – CityTourCard
Before purchasing the CityTourCard, you need to select the area in which the ticket is to be valid. There are three options:
- Zone M: Valid for the Munich city area and some nearby towns. Ideal for journeys within the city.
- Zone M – 6: Also covers the Munich surrounding area – e.g. the airport, Starnberg, Ammersee, Dachau, Bad Tölz. Suitable for day trips around Munich.
- Zone M – 12: Also valid for the Alpine foothills. Trips are possible, for example, to Schliersee, Tegernsee, Chiemsee, Rosenheim or Kufstein (Austria).
Tip: Check the network map to see which places are in which zone. This will help you quickly find the right ticket for your journey.
The CityTourCard can be purchased in various ways – depending on your needs:
Online:
Buy and print directly from your computer via the MVV Ticket Shop or at citytourcard-muenchen.com.
Via app (HandyTicket):
Free apps such as the MVV app, MVGO, München Navigator, DB Navigator or BRB Tickets & Infos allow you to purchase the CityTourCard conveniently and cash-free.
In person:
Available from ticket machines at S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations, at MVG and S-Bahn customer centres, as well as at BRB customer centres and BRB ticket machines in the Chiemgau-Inntal and Oberland regions.
The validity of the CityTourCard depends on the option selected:
Hourly ticket:
Valid for the specified number of hours from the time of validation. Validation takes place at the start of the first journey – either at a ticket machine or automatically for digital tickets.
Day ticket:
Valid until 6 am the following day.
Example: A 4-day ticket can be used until 6 am on the fifth day.
Tip:
For digital tickets (e.g. in the app), validity begins automatically upon purchase or activation – no separate validation is required.
The printed CityTourCard must be validated before your first journey.
You can validate it using the ticket validators at stations or at ticket machines.
OnlineTickets and HandyTickets are automatically valid from the moment of purchase or activation in the app – no validation required.
Tip:
Make sure the digital ticket is already activated when you board – otherwise it will not be considered valid.
