What is European Mobility Week?
European Mobility Week (EMW) is a campaign organised by the European Commission. Every year, from 16 to 22 September, local authorities across Europe take the lead in promoting climate-friendly and sustainable mobility. Through initiatives, hands-on activities and events, towns, cities and districts demonstrate how sustainable travel can work in everyday life – on foot, by bike, by bus and train, or through new mobility options.
European Mobility Week invites people to rethink their habits, try out alternatives to the car and play an active part in shaping the mobility of tomorrow. Here at MVV, too.
On Saturday 19 September 2026, members of the public can use MVV regional, express and city buses in the participating districts free of charge – without a ticket and without having to register.
Free travel applies throughout the day. The following districts are taking part:
Dachau
, Fürstenfeldbruck
, Starnberg
, Landsberg am Lech
, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen
Journeys across district boundaries are also free of charge. The participating bus routes can be identified by the MVV logo.

The theme for 2026: Intergenerational mobility
Mobility brings people together – regardless of age. Under the theme ‘Mobility across the generations’, European Mobility Week 2026 will focus on the needs of different age groups.
Children, young people, families, working people and older people have different mobility requirements. To ensure that everyone can get about safely and independently, we need services that work across the generations and make everyday life easier.
The campaign week demonstrates how sustainable mobility can bring people together – for example, through mobility training for older people, bus training to improve safety in everyday life, cycling initiatives for families, group walks around town, or the hassle-free use of buses and trains during the public transport taster day.
Working together for sustainable mobility in the MVV area
As the region’s transport partner, MVV works alongside the districts in its network to promote sustainable local transport.
As part of European Mobility Week, numerous districts are taking part with their own initiatives, events and information sessions. Whether it’s mobility days, cycling initiatives, taster days on public transport, mobility and safety training, city walks or family activities – these initiatives showcase the diversity of sustainable mobility across the MVV area.
