Carpooling offers can now be viewed directly in the app and on the timetable

Carpooling combined with public transport connections for flexible, eco-friendly travel planning

The new feature allows users to view carpooling options directly within the MVV app and the MVV journey planner. This makes travelling on the MVV network more convenient and environmentally friendly.

Users can now see at a glance which carpooling options are available. The combined display of public transport and carpooling makes planning easier, for example:

  • from your current location to the carpool meeting point
  • from the carpool drop-off point to the destination

This makes travel planning simpler and more flexible.

One platform – many ride-sharing providers within the MVV network

As part of the “Mitanand” funding project, a standardised, transferable link between public transport and car-sharing providers was developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich, fahrgemeinschaft.de GmbH and goFLUX Mobility GmbH. This is based on the GTFS interface, which is widely used in public transport.

The new interface will initially be used in the MVV map view and is also set to be integrated into the routing system at a later date. The project was funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport as part of the mFUND programme.

With around 1.5 million users and 3 million listings, Fahrgemeinschaft.de is one of the largest providers of daily carpooling services for commuters in Germany. The platform offers the most comprehensive range of options for regular journeys of up to 1,000 kilometres. It is also suitable for occasional long-distance carpooling (usually over 100 km).

Booking:
Use of fahrgemeinschaft.de is freely accessible, completely free of charge and works like a noticeboard. Users can independently offer or search for journeys. If interested, they contact each other directly, usually by phone or email. The parties involved sort out all the details themselves. The platform merely provides the technical environment and is not involved in arranging or processing payments.

Coverage area:
The entire MVV area is covered.

Costs:
The price for rides is set by the provider and is often based on the distance.

goFLUX Mobility GmbH, based in Cologne, operates the free goFLUX carpooling app, which is designed for short regional journeys and commutes. The app complements public transport by filling in the gaps and helps to reduce traffic volumes and CO₂ emissions.

Booking:
A ride can only be booked after prior registration in the goFLUX app. The app offers modern features such as automatic cost settlement, verified users, a matching algorithm and a live view.

Service area:
The entire MVV area is covered by the service.

Costs:
The cost-sharing is automatically settled in the app.

RideBee is a carpooling app designed specifically for journeys to work, university and events. The app promotes sustainable transport, reduces traffic and helps save money.

Booking:
Users can create ride offers if they want to drive themselves, or ride requests if they want to be a passenger. The app automatically suggests suitable drivers or passengers. A journey is confirmed as soon as the driver accepts the request. Departure times and meeting points can be easily agreed via the integrated chat function.
The app also offers automatic price calculation, digital payment, smart matching, calendar functions and notifications.

Service area:
The entire MVV area is covered.

Costs:
There are no commission fees. Journey costs are automatically calculated based on the distance travelled together and any detours. The standard rate is 10–15 cents per kilometre. Journeys can also be offered free of charge.
