MVV shareholders vote in favour of the fourth phase of the transport network expansion, to take effect on 1 January 2027
Bavaria’s Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter: “The latest expansion of the MVV to include the district of Ostallgäu and the town of Kaufbeuren is a real milestone – not only for the region, but for the entire transport network area. For 4.35 million people between Burg Trausnitz and Lechfall, this will mean, in future: standardised tickets and fares, coordinated transport services, clear passenger information and simple, digital services. As always, the Free State stands firmly by the side of the member municipalities and is supporting them with up to one million euros for the preparatory feasibility studies. We are also compensating the rail operators for one-off investments and loss of revenue when passengers often only need a single, cheaper ticket for various modes of transport.”
Mayor Dominik Krause, Chair of the Shareholders’ Meeting: “I am delighted about this new addition to the MVV family. This means that Neuschwanstein Castle and many other beautiful destinations in the Ostallgäu district and in Kaufbeuren can in future be reached from Munich with a single MVV ticket. Commuters, too, will benefit from standardised tickets and coordinated connections. The expansion of the transport network will make local travel easier, more comfortable and therefore more attractive for many people.”
Benefits for passengers
From 1 January 2027, standard fares and tickets will also apply in the town of Kaufbeuren and the Ostallgäu district. Using buses and trains will become easier, as only one ticket will be required for different zones or modes of transport.
Information and ticket purchases
Timetable and fare information will be improved: the electronic timetable service on the MVV website or the MVV app are the main sources of information for connections and fares, and the easiest way to buy the right ticket. Tickets can be purchased via the app, eliminating the need to visit a ticket machine.
Once you’ve entered your start point and destination, the timetable service will find the best connection(s) for your desired travel time and show the fare. With MVVswipe, a feature in the app for quick ticket purchases, passengers can get the right ticket with just a single swipe.
