Good to know – Group day ticket

When purchasing an MVV day ticket, you must select the area of validity – i.e. the zones through which your journey will take you.

Important:

  • Zone M covers the city of Munich and neighbouring areas.
  • Zones 1–12 are located around Munich.
  • Munich Airport is located in Zone 5.

Basic rule for day tickets:
You must select at least Zone M or two zones outside of M.

Examples:

  • Central Station → Pasing (both in Zone M):
A day ticket for Zone M is sufficient.
  • Gauting → Feldmoching (Zone 1/2 → Zone M/1):
Zone M is passed throughDay ticket for Zones M–1 required.
  • Neuaubing → Maisach (Zone M/1 → Zone 2/3):
Zone M is not passed throughA day ticket for Zones 1–2 is sufficient.
  • Sauerlach → Munich Airport (Zone 1/2 → Zone 5):
Zone M is passed throughDay ticket for Zones M–5 required.
    Alternative: Airport City Day Ticket

Tip:
The MVV network map shows the relevant zone for each stop (e.g. Harthaus = Zone M–1).

Some stops are located in two fare zones at the same time.
For example: Allach is in Zone M and Zone 1 (M/1).

This means that,
depending on the direction of travel, you can choose the cheaper zonesaving you money.

Examples:

  • Journey from Allach to the main station:
A ticket for Zone M is sufficient.
  • Journey from Allach to Altomünster:
A ticket for zones 1 to 4 is required.

The day ticket is valid until 6 am the following day.

Tickets must be validated (stamped) before the journey.

However, there are exceptions:

  • Tickets from the bus or tram:
Already stamped on purchase, no further validation required.
  • Tickets from Deutsche Bahn ticket machines:
→ You can choose between a stamped and an unstamped ticket.

Note on validation:
If the ticket says “validate here”, it must be stamped before the journey.

A group day ticket is worth it for two or more people, provided that all passengers are aged 15 or over.

Group day tickets for up to 30 people can be purchased online – for example, via the MVV Ticket Shop or the MVV app.

Here’s how it works:

  • The tickets are sold in increments of 5 (e.g. for 5, 10, 15 people).
  • You can combine several group day tickets until the desired number is reached.

Special note for school groups and children:

  • Children up to the age of 14 and pupils up to Year 9 count as half a person on school trips.
  • This rule also applies to OnlineTickets and is automatically taken into account during booking.

Large groups travelling by train or coach must book in advance.

Train (DB Regio):

Bus:

  • Book your journey at least 7 working days before the date of travel.
  • Contact the transport company directly.
  • Contact details are shown at the bottom right of the timetable for the relevant route.
  • Do not purchase tickets until you have received confirmation.

Tip:
Booking early secures seats and helps avoid unnecessary costs.
