Good to know – Airport City Day Ticket

The Airport City Day Ticket is available from the following ticket machines:

  • Vending machines at Munich Airport
  • Vending machines at most S-Bahn stations (with exceptions, see below)
  • Mobile ticket machines on MVG buses and trams
  • Fixed MVG ticket machines in the Munich city centre

How to buy a ticket from a machine:

  • First, select “MVV Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund”.
  • Then select “Airport-City-Day-Ticket” on the screen.

Exceptions when buying tickets:

At certain S-Bahn stations near the airport, it is not possible to purchase a ticket from a machine. Simply select “Airport” as your destination at these stations:

  • S1: Eching, Freising, Lohhof, Feldmoching, Neufahrn, Oberschleißheim, Pulling, Unterschleißheim
  • S2: Altenerding, Aufhausen, Erding, Feldkirchen, Grub, Heimstetten, Markt Schwaben, Ottenhofen, Poing, St. Koloman
  • S8: Hallbergmoos, Ismaning

The Airport City Day Ticket can be paid for in various ways at the ticket machines:

  • Coins and banknotes
  • Debit card (EC card) and GeldKarte
  • Credit card

Credit cards at the airport and S-Bahn stations:
EUROCARD/MasterCard, VISA and Diners Club are accepted.

Credit cards at MVG ticket machines (e.g. underground):
MasterCard, VISA and American Express are accepted.

The Airport City Day Ticket is valid until 6 am the following day.

In most cases, the Airport City Day Ticket does not need to be validated.

  • Tickets purchased at the airport, at S-Bahn stations (DB ticket machines), as OnlineTickets or from mobile ticket machines on buses and trams are already validated.
  • Only tickets from fixed MVG ticket machines within the Munich city area need to be validated before your journey. These tickets can be identified by the words ‘Validate here’.

Tip: It’s best to buy your ticket just before you set off.

For a single journey to the airport, you can also use a single ticket or a multi-trip ticket. This is particularly good value for shorter journeys, for example from Unterschleißheim.

As an alternative to the Airport City Day Ticket, a day ticket for zones M to 5 can also be used – both tickets are equivalent in price and service.

Tip: Before buying, consider how often you’ll be travelling that day. For multiple journeys on the same day, a day ticket is usually cheaper.

There are two S-Bahn lines running directly from Munich Airport to the city centre:

  • S1: via the west of Munich (e.g. Neufahrn, Moosach)
  • S8: via the east of Munich (e.g. Ostbahnhof, Marienplatz)

Timetable:
Trains run alternately every 10 minutes. Each line runs approximately every 20 minutes.

Journey time:
The journey to the city centre takes approx. 35 minutes.

Main stops:
Both lines stop at key stations such as Hauptbahnhof and Marienplatz.
