Good to know – Apprenticeship pay scale I
The Training Fare is a ticket option for journeys between home and the training centre. Due to legal requirements, it is only available to certain groups of people:
- Pupils and students at state or state-recognised general and vocational schools, adult education centres, as well as universities and academies (excluding administrative academies, adult education centres, rural adult education centres and Bundeswehr universities)
- Individuals at private educational institutions, provided they are exempt from compulsory vocational schooling or their attendance is eligible for BAföG funding
- Individuals attending a finishing course (e.g. secondary school leaving certificate) at an adult education centre or similar institution
- Individuals in a vocational training relationship or comparable contractual relationship under the Vocational Training Act
- Individuals in off-the-job training under Section 43(2) of the Vocational Training Act (BBiG) or Section 36(2) of the Crafts and Trades Regulation Act (HwO)
- Participants in a state-recognised vocational preparation course
- Interns and trainees, provided the internship or traineeship is related to a formal training programme or course of study
- Civil service trainees at qualification levels 1 to 3, as well as persons preparing for admission through administrative training courses – provided that no travel expenses are reimbursed
The entire city of Munich and some surrounding municipalities are grouped together in Zone M.
There are no fare boundaries within the city of Munich.
Fare zones can be purchased individually.
For many ticket types, one or two zones cost the same.
Examples of required zones:
- Central Station (Zone M) → Pasing (Zone M/1)
➝ Ticket for Zone M required - Gauting (Zone 1/2) → Feldmoching (Zone M/1)
➝ Ticket for Zones M – 1, as Zone M is passed through - Neuaubing (Zone M/1) → Maisach (Zone 2/3)
➝ Ticket for Zones 1–2 required, as Zone M is not passed through - Sauerlach (Zone 1/2) → Munich Airport (Zone 5)
➝ Ticket for Zones M – 5, as Zone M is passed through
Many stops are located in two fare zones at the same time – for example, Allach M/1, which is in Zone M and Zone 1.
This classification is shown on the MVV network map with fare zones.
Depending on the direction of travel, you can choose the cheaper zone:
- Journey from Allach to the main station:
➝ Only Zone M required - Journey from Allach to Altomünster:
➝ Zones 1 to 4 required
Tip:
Choosing the right zone saves money – a glance at the MVV fare zone map will help you decide.
The weekly ticket is valid from midnight on Monday until 12 noon on the first working day of the following week.
The monthly ticket is valid for one calendar month and additionally until 12 noon on the first working day of the following month.
If this working day falls on a Saturday, the validity is extended until 12 noon on the next working day.
Season tickets under the student fare scheme are valid only for the zones required for the daily journey between home and the place of study.
Within the registered zones, the pass can be used for any journey on all days of validity.
The number of zones is determined when the customer card is issued and is noted on the travel pass.
Eligibility under Training Tariff I applies until the end of the school year in which the individual turns 15.
The school year runs from 1 August to 31 July of the following year.
If you hold a season ticket on the student fare and wish to travel beyond the zones included, there are several options available:
- With the Education PlusCard, the student fare can be extended to additional zones at a low cost – ideal for leisure travel.
- For single journeys outside the valid area, there is a connecting ticket available from ticket machines or as a mobile ticket.
- The connecting ticket takes into account the zones already paid for and extends them to cover the desired route.
- Alternatively, the season ticket can be combined with single tickets, strip tickets or day tickets. These must be validated at the latest at the last stop within the valid area – ideally as soon as the journey begins.
Children below school age, such as 6-year-old nursery school children, are not eligible for a season ticket under the education fare scheme, as the state subsidies for the reduced education fare cover only journeys made for the purpose of attending school.
Journeys to nursery school are therefore not eligible for funding and do not fall under the provisions of Student Fare Category I.
