A short journey is defined as any journey of up to four stops, provided that no more than two of these are made by S-Bahn, Underground, ExpressBus or regional train.
You are permitted to combine modes of transport, change services and briefly interrupt your journey, provided that the maximum journey time of one hour is not exceeded.
Zone boundaries do not apply in this context.
For a short-distance journey, you can use a strip from a standard multi-trip ticket or buy a single short-distance ticket – the easiest way is to use a HandyTicket.
Examples
Example 1:
Ostbahnhof → Maxmonument
- 2 S-Bahn stops + 2 tram stops
- A total of four stops, only two of which are by S-Bahn → short-distance ticket valid.
Example 2:
Rosenheim, Pettenkoferstraße → Rosenheim, Bahnhof
- 13 stops + change
- Located entirely within one city → counts as a short journey.
Example 3:
Sachrang, Ort (Zone 11) → Aschauer Bahnhof (Zone 10)
- The journey takes place entirely within the municipality of Aschau → valid as a short journey.
Notes
- Multiple short-distance journeys may not be combined – nor may a combination of zone and short-distance journeys.
- The validity of a season ticket can be extended with a short-distance ticket.
- The U21 strip ticket is not valid for short-distance journeys.
- Children and those under 21 can use the short-distance fare with the standard strip ticket.
