Transitional arrangements for old tickets and VAT rates

Old MVV tickets can be used during a transitional period following a fare adjustment and can subsequently be refunded subject to a top-up payment or a handling fee; all prices include the reduced rate of VAT.

Fare adjustment from 1 January 2026

The MVV fare structure was adjusted on 1 January 2026. The following rules apply to zone or short-distance tickets purchased before this date.

Use during the transition period

Old tickets can still be used for three months after the effective date.
Transition period: until 31 March 2026

Exchange and refund after the end of the transition period

Exchange for tickets at the new fare is possible (subject to a top-up payment).
Refunds of the purchase price are possible (handling fee of €3).

VAT on MVV tickets

All MVV fares include the reduced rate of VAT (in accordance with Section 12(2)(10) of the German Value Added Tax Act 1967).
