Shared mobility – using rather than owning
Shared mobility refers to all forms of transport that are shared, available at short notice and on demand, without being owned by any one person. These modes of transport are publicly accessible and are usually hired. They include, for example:
- Bicycles, pedelecs and cargo bikes in bike-sharing schemes
- Cars and electric cars in car-sharing
- Electric vehicles such as e-scooters or e-mopeds
The expansion of shared mobility is a key component in complementing traditional public transport and cycling in Munich and the surrounding region. This makes it possible to organise mobility without owning a car in a more convenient and flexible way.
Based on the principle of ‘using rather than owning’, resources such as land are conserved and demand-driven, individual mobility behaviour within the eco-friendly transport network is supported.
